June 2015 challenge entry : Ferrous

I had two concepts in mind . This one and a whaling map/chart carved in whale ivory. : Scrimshaw. I decided on this one in spite of the other rusty concept entry.

FERROUS :
A city state near the Gallian Mountains famous for the production of superior metal alloys. Mostly but not exclusively iron based alloys. It is a melting pot figuratively as well as literally. It is a multi - cultural city state composed of approximately 6000 humans 4000 dwarves 2000 gnomes and the remaining 1000+ of various other races. Locally iron is mined and smelted into bars ,ingots and rod stock. Other ores are brought in on a Railsystem from neighboring areas then they are likewise processed. The alloys produced are traded the world over and are much sought after. All the processes for their alloys are highly guarded secrets as well as their unique steam powered engine for their railroads. All processing areas are highly fortified and spying is a corporal offense punished by death.

The city Guard is known as the Iron fist. The name goes without explanation!

Still in layout format but still an update . The background of the shield will be etched / colored to represent / differentiate different areas .

Well life and design indecision have been kicking my butt, but the next two evenings are mine to use to finish this. Here is the final direction i decided on for better or worse !
