Bit of an update...toned down the orange-ishness and added something red and yellow splotchy; added 2 elves; put in all of the huts (you might not seem em since they're under the foliage but when I do up a second version with transparent trees you will see em); and added the shadows for the slats on the railings (neat lil trick there -- ctrl-click the wooden platform layer, contract the selection by 1, go to the paths tab and choose to make a path via selection, then stroke the path with a 3-pixel pencil with 400% spacing, then motion blur, move the layer into precise place, copy 4 times). Might have done some other stuff but I was distracted by my Rams so I don't really remember. This one is just about done...might play around with it a bit or fix anything anyone sees that's glaring.

I love the layout and the look. I think there's some better tree images at the DJ forums that could be used though.

I couldn't come up with something that I liked for semi transparent trees so I just cut the fill to zero and put a black stroke on em. Not a WIP just something to show ya what is underneath all of those leaves in case someone wants to use it for something.

Ok, here's the final. No major updates, just a few color tweaks on the platforms and houses and fixed some shadows that were buggin me.

I like the version without the canopy.... have you experimented with a version that is between the regular and the transparent? You lose so much detail with the trees

I've spent many hours just playing around with the trees' transparency to see if there was something I liked to no avail. Each tree is on its own layer and then there are 5 extra layers on top of that for color tweaks, bump mapping, effects, etc. Very time consuming to edit each layer (each tree has different layer effects) and then the top layers. I got frustrated many times so I quit in order to meet the deadline. As I type this another idea just hit me but it will take me a few hours to accomplish and I've gotta get to work in a lil bit so maybe I'll do it when I get home.

It's excellent. I really like the river as well. It's a shame you cant get a compromise between having the canopy and not, the buildings are really well done, but it's a pity they're mostly hidden.

It has a nice organic look to it which I'm sure the elves will appreciate.
Happiness is knowing your mapping software won't crash partway through an operation.
