    Welcome to the guild!
Others would probably have to concur but this was probably done in something like Adobe photoshop (it is the main program used in commercial computer illustration), but could also be done in GIMP, an open source (free) drawing program thats very similar...

as for the methods, i'd have to leave that to others, but Zombie Nirvana is a good place to start.

Thanks for posting that link, that's a great map.

It looks hand-drawn to me -- maybe with a tablet.

It can be done in CC3, maybe with some external editing.

Post or "E" All of the Above

I see many ways to create this map:

Hand Drawn/Scanned/Enhanced in PS or GIMP
Tablet Drawn/Enhanced in PS or GIMP
Campaign Cartographer with the right objects
    also possibly enhanced in Inkscape/Illustrator.

Of course, I'd hand draw, scan and enhance in Xara.

There is no one way to create this kind of map, you'd create it doing whichever way and application you're most comfortable with.

    A n00b question: what is a tablet?

  7. #7

    Post a digitizing tablet

A digitizing tablet is an input device, like a mouse, except it has a "pen" with pressure sensitive point allowing you to draw on platen (tablet itself) that records your pen strokes - allowing you to paint or draw as if with traditional tools, but records digitally in whatever proggie you're using: GIMP, PS, Xara, Inkscape, Illustrator, etc.

There are a number of threads dedicated to the discussion of tablets on this site... for example:
