Aug / Sept 15 Lite Challenge: Heraldic Shields

I think I'll throw my hat into this ring again. Here are some heraldic shields for a group of nations inhabiting and struggling for control over a resource-rich archipelago. I haven't made a map for the region, so these are specifically for the challenge. Here's the first half. I'll start work on the second half soon. Let me hear your thoughts!

Well those are excellent! I look forward to seeing what you do for the others. You might put them on a different background though... maybe an ocean pattern of some sort, leaving space at the bottom or in the middle for a small map example of their use?

Very nice colorful shields GWN! They seem to fit well for a tropical archipelago. Btw.: Is this an anteater on the left?

I think it is a stingray

Yeah it's a ray. Now I admit that I'm not that great an artist, but I'm not sure where anteater came from

Nah, well... Now that you mention it if you put paws with long claws on the two hind fins and view the tail as a tongue, then maybe it could be reminiscent of an anteater, upside down or from a top view. Possibly. Looks a lot more like a ray, though.
