Default October 2015 Challenge: The Turtle Sea

Long ago, I generated this beastie during a challenge.

I've learned a wee bit since then and thought that I'd take a whack at redoing the inverse.

Here's the rough without any frills like borders, titles, or markers:

It's half of my working resolution and so some of the details might be getting a little washed out. I'm not sure about keeping the contours. It probably also could use a color saturation and brightness boost as well.

A little color boost probably helped. My monitors are very low-end and the color varies significantly from top to bottom.

Ha, this is cool! Your map inverts really well. Looking forward to seeing what comes next.

    I like it!
The best maps are the ones we like the most after looking at the longest.

Some labels, a title, a scale bar. That's probably as good as I'm going to get for this one.

I love the whole turtle thing, waldronate, and the way you make relief maps. I'd suggest playing with your labels some more, though, the white glow and the font you chose makes them difficult to read.

I agree that the labeling wasn't the best. The font choice is intended to look a bit sloppy partially because it helps to hide the typos. The lighter part of the scale bar is also a bit brighter than it should be, especially when viewed zoomed out for the preview. There are probably too many rivers, as well.

I'm not sure that I'll have the time to get back to it before the contest ends, though. I have a whole stack of project to get done before Sunday...
