Thread: Annual Map badge - open challenge

  1. #1

Default Annual Map badge - open challenge

Attention, Attention... Hear ye, hear ye...
We need to create an award badge for the Annual Challenge. We talked about it some and it was going to be a platinum compass.
But now we're looking at doing a Golden Globe. So we thought to do an open community challenge where anyone can put in a badge and then it will be voted on.

Here's how it will work - those wanting to do so will post their badge entry here, to this thread, and then when we're ready to vote a new voting thread will be opened to vote on the winning badge.
There's no prize to win here, just community involvement in making a great Golden Globe badge. And I guess you could brag about your badge being the best.

The badge images are quite small so all entries will have to look good/readable at that size.
There appear to be 2 sizes, 60x60 pixels and 30x30 pixels. So it's obviously going to limit what can be done but go bold!
Even if you just make a larger Golden Globe [ie golden world] image, post it here too.

We'd love to see what everyone can do. This is open to everyone, no skill level, no limitations other than the size and subject.
This will close at around the time of the close for the Annual Challenge, so not a lot of time. Cheers and go globing.

I'll kick it off with an entry.
I'm not sure if this one would work as it kind of goes above the size on the vertical.
But it was fun to do none the less.
The 60pix and 30pix as pngs.

I went for a straight literal interpretation but there's a lot of room for other versions.
Jump in when you have time. Cheers.

This looks really good and it works well even at a small size. Well done!

I'm trying think of something map-related that it isn't a compass or a globe. Maybe a unicorn. You see them often in the cartouche on old maps, plus they're as rare as the annual challenge award! (Well, sort of)

Looking forward to seeing some other entries.

Your entry is a very good suggestion J. Will be hard to counter that! However, I think it would look even better without the stand(or legs, not certain what to call it). Just as a globe with arches around it. Also, some platinum-green in there would look neat, to separate it from the gold compass

I had done another version that took off the legs.
But i wanted others to get in on this so I didn't post them before.

I'd pull mine out if it would mean people would enter this.
I was hoping for some community involvement. It's fun. Join in.

I really like John's globe a lot, but just so there is something to choose from, here is a more compass-oriented icon.

That compass is amazing Chick. Splendid work. Especially with the little globe in the center. That blew my mind. It does not render that well in the smaller version, however, I must say that is one of the better compasses I have seen in a while.

I'm glad you jumped in Chick.
    And a great entry too.
I hope we can get a few more entries in here.
It's open to everyone, and as Chick has shown it's still anyone's game.
