    Post Amateur Canadian cartographer...

Hello! I have been interested in fantasy cartography/game design for most of my life, and it is great to find such a rich support site. For such an interesting pursuit, there seems to be very little in the way of tutorials and resources online...this forum is by far the best I've come across. Anyway, most of the maps I have worked on are to compliment stories I have written (or plan to write). I have only completed one map to date, and that a few years ago (which I will post), but I most definitely intend to learn from what is offered here and, hopefully, create better maps.

    Hi Greyweather & welcome.

Related... anyone know why there was an E in 'Greyhawk' and not an A ? I am forever having to sub in an A when I type greyscale so was surprised when I had to ref that campaign setting the other day.

My spell checker is now highlighting 3 words in this post...

Welcome to the board. There's a fair few folks here who found this site through wanting to draw maps for their stories ( I'm one of them). You'll find it a great resource here and an even better community.

Redrobes: yeah the old Grey UK, Gray US. bugs me too. I was having to write 'Grayscale' a lot for my tutorials because that's how Photoshop has it. I get confused with the variations because my spelling isn't generally that good anyway! I However I will always spell colour and honour as such

I tend to spell depending on who I am posting to. For you I would write grey and colour but for our US cousins it would be gray and color. Generally I write with the latter knowing the larger US following than UK. I didnt realize that Canada had UK style grey so do you guys have UK style colour too ? Other than those two words I usually write in UK style except for 'tho' cos I am lazy but for I dont with through cos I reckon that word needs a good G in there and I can cheat at scrabble...

Welcome to the boards, Greyweather, It is always nice to see a fellow Canuck here.

Redrobes, Canadian spelling is a "bastardized" mix of UK and American spelling with a few unique Canadian (and French-Canadian) words thrown in for good measure. In Canada, you will find that people use both versions of colour/color. I generally type with Canadian spelling since that's what I'm used to but when I'm working with HTML code, it is American spelling (or else none of the code would work).
    Cheers,
