Info Hi from the Isle of Wight

    Hi All,
I am a newbie to map making but I have recently discovered Campaign Cartographer. My first maps were pretty rubbish, I then worked through the tutorial. Now they are rubbish but pretty
I have started by doing inns and taverns based in the Forgotten Realms setting (TM), as I have all the 2nd edition stuff (including the atlas!). Attached is my version of the Rising Moon Inn from Highmoon in the Dalelands.
Any criticism, comments or even praise is welcomed.
My new aim is to draw a town that looks half as good as Gandwarf's

I've not used campaign cartographer, is it possible to put drop shadows in on things with it? It looks like the walls have some, but it might be nice on the stuff, too, to give it more perspective.

Also, is there a grid on this? Is that why some of the floorboards appear to be bisected?

I think it looks pretty good for the most part. It's definitely better designed than any tavern I've attempted, mine always end up looking stupid

Hi goatdealer, nice handle btw... we have a map challenge here every month and a few months back we did one to create a specific inn. You can get the full write up about exactly what must be in that inn in the July challenge in the challenges archive. Still, here is a page of thumbs for the entrants who all submitted an inn for it. Vry won and his map was particularly superb - as always...

Theres an index page on my sig with lists of threads too. In that you will find a list of threads about CC3 and Inns too. So run through some of those loitering on any tutorials.

Many thanks for the comments xv43, I have added drop shadows to the furniture etc and thickened the grid - you are right it looks loads better. I haven't managed to shadow the bar as it is on a different layer (and I cant work out how to move it!) I will post the top floor when I am happy with it.

Thanks for the link Redrobes - Vrys map is pretty awe inspiring, it will need one hell of a tutorial to get me to that stage using CC3

btw, this is also the first time I have joined a discussion group too. I am off to seek the tutorials (or maybe go to bed!).

Whoa, that shadow really adds a lot, nice job.

    Welcome Goatdealer.

Not sure if i'd like to visit the isle of Wight......toooo many undead

As to your map, the drop shadows are indeed kicking. But to give that extra pinache, don't forget to take the entity that is the Bar and move it to the same sheet as the rest of the furniture so it also has a drop shadow.

    Good Job otherwise.
