Really neat idea, and I like the island. It gives you a lot to work with!

The stippling confuses me a bit. Does it represent forests? Why does the density change around the hills and the cracked-looking lands?

As jshoer said, there certainly is an awful lot of stippling that isn't hugely clear in what it is. Otherwise a nice little map, with good attention to detail and a nice shape.

I made this map a long time ago so its not representative of my abilities now. The stippling was supposed to represent ashy areas as it is a volcanic island, Sort of like desert sand. Its pretty much all ashy plains except, obviously, for the mountainous areas. but to be honest, i also used it just to add random detail to the map as i was using a very inky pen so any shading or light detail wasn't possible. Heres a much more recent version of the map i've been doing.

What kind of pen are you using - can you dilute the ink? I did some deserts once by diluting the ink a bunch to get maybe...oh, 25% gray, and then putting in a series of wavy lines to represent dunes. It came out well. I'd encourage you to experiment with textures and see if anything else does better than the stippling.

Always nice to see more traditionally drawn maps I think the stippling looks interesting, it's a nice effect. It might need a key to explain what it means though, if the fictional target audience wouldn't be so familiar with the island as to immediately understand what it represents. The coastline looks great!

Your stipling is extremely dense but gives the map a lot of depth - and I think there's still enough contrast between the land features. Wicked mountains and landshapes! Really enjoy this map
