Map WIP of a jungle region for my D&D group

This is the early sketch of the map for my D&D group.

They are headed into a huge jungle where a variety of cultures exist (I'm taking inspiration from african and aztec cultures).

This map was (in the fictional D&D world) bought by the party, and was made by the natives. As such it isn't geographically accurate but highly symbolized.

I want the group to figure out where to go and not get lost by using the map, just like they would in the fantasy scenario.

Each location will be represented by a symbol and the lines are lines of constant bearing to travel between places using the compass (since there are no landmarks to orient yourself in this jungle).

Very nice start, like the parchment and the bit of compass, lovely handout

Finished the icons for the different settlements, inked the drawing and added some notes (in game the notes in red were written by a historian on the map made by the natives)

I'm not sure where to go from here though. Maybe it's complete, I'm not sure what i could add.

(for some reason the image preview is flipped, but clicking it flips it the right way)

That is very, very cool. Very unique, but interesting.

the look is appealing: the symbols, the portolan lines, the red notes too! but there is not clue that is a jungle indeed.. maybe try to add some shapes in the background, a coastline, some rivers.. just my thoughts!

That's a good point, i'm just a bit worried about line clutter.
Maybe i could symbolize the jungle by drawing some trees around the map, maybe like small drawings of single trees... hmm.

I'll have to do some sketches to see the effect.

    Thanks for the observation.

Added a river and a coastline to the south , then some tree effects along the edges of both to simulate a dense jungle all across the region.

Very nice! I love the general style and symbols. It reminds me of the old Dark Crystal map.
