    Help REQUEST: Impressive CC3+ Maps

    Hi all,

What's the most impressive maps you've seen made with CC3+? Considering buying it, but I still haven't seen anything that has really impressed me. In saying that, there is a pretty huge variation in the quality of work in the few maps I have seen, so I'm optimistic. Please share or link to anything worth seeing!

Well, this is a little hard to answer. The Profantasy website has links to a few different people's websites that use cc3 and cc3+ Then don't forget all of the add ons to the main program that allow for even more types of mapping. Also, how is anyone supposed to know what you personally would consider impressive? Are overland maps impressive to you? What about dungeon maps? Or star system maps? How about perspective maps? And then there are diorama maps?, and city maps? The list goes on and on.

Lets not forget about people's skill level with the mapping software too. I don't consider myself a great user of cc3 or cc3+ but other people like some of the maps I have made. There is a guy on the Profantasy forum named Joachim de Revenbel who runs circles around me when it comes to mapping and has made some things I consider very impressive. There is a woman on there named Shessar that has made some maps I considered very impressive as well. But maybe my tastes in mapping differ from yours.

So how can anyone really answer this question? I can only tell you that I love the program, even though it takes some getting used to. And I know I am not utilizing it to its full effect so my maps have been suffering for it. But learning everything you can do with it takes time because it really is a full vector graphics piece of software. The tome of ultimate mapping, the book that tells you how to do it all, runs a good 619 pages. Some of it gets quite technical, especially the part about making macro's. (Note that you have to buy the Tome of Ultimate Mapping separate from the program, just like you used to have to do with Photoshop if you wanted all of the technical details of that program.)

And don't forget, Mike Schley has both an overland mapping style and a dungeon mapping style that cc3+ and dd3 use.

I, like Tonnichiwa, use cc3+ for my maps, and I agree with him, that it's very difficult to show you something that will 'impress' you. But if you want to get an idea of the different things that cc3+ can do, we can give you a list of mappers on this site that use it, you can check out their maps, and see for yourself. Understand, please, that we are NOT professionals, by any means, but we each have our own way of doing things, so you can get a feel for the versatility of the program.

Realize too, that the impressiveness of the maps is based on the mapper, not necessarily the program. While cc3+ is a pretty impressive program(in my opinion, of course), you will be seeing maps made by people in different stages of learning the program. There is also the add ons that can be purchased to give cc3+ even more versatility, which you can purchase, or not, at your discretion.

As for those of us that use cc3+, well, there's Tonnichiwa, and myself, OldGuy, CharlesRobinson, I think Lorelei is on this site, waldronate, just to name a few. And, as Tonnichiwa mentioned, you can check out www.profantasy.com, and look at the forums. In the show and tell section, you can see quite a few cc3+ map users with many projects in various stages of completion. Whether you consider them impressive? That, my friend, is ultimately up to you

Just like Photoshop and Gimp....you get out of the program what your willing to put into the learning process. If you just Dabble you gonna get okay maps....You want to be a Remington or a Rembrandt your gonna have to study and practice. There is another new Mapper coming to Steam it looks like.. Virtual Battlemap....Makes Dundjinni and Campaign Cartographer maps look weak....No Idea how much support it will get...Fan support is what makes Dundjinni the best Battle Mapper out there. No support from actual Company...Best thing about CC is that Profantasy does do some support (although for money) and is active. And we can use Fan art from Dundjinni. One of the things that make a map look great is consistent Art....Cartoonish and Photorealistic don't mesh much on a Map.
It looks designed to do more 3D /Video Game Design than just a 2D Mapper. But one of the Best looking aspects of the game is that since it is designed more for video than printing is the light effects. Instead of a "Universal Sun" setting it appears to be "dark" with no light until you add Light sources...You get Flickering effects...You can rotate the Map from different angles and Degrees also...Not just purely Straight down.

As the developer I have to say that yes.. I will be supporting the software and yes you build the maps in 3D but the software can take a variety of top down (Print Quality) images of what you build. And if you want to make some fancy area shots you can use a free roaming camera to take any image angle of image you want

This program is a labor of love, not a pocket filling cash grab.. we will keep the costs low in hopes of promoting more playing and less paying!!

** If you can support us on Steam Greenlight all we need is a "YES" vote.. you can vote here: Virtual Battlemap Greenlight

** FREE Battlemaps from the program during development are available at the website.

    Have a good day

From those other maps you made I would say you don't need CC3! You made some pretty nice maps there.

I think that the best aspect of the Program is the 3D aspect...Always wanted to do 3d Walk through for my Players and those Lighting effects and Moving Water are something you just can't capture in 2d Mapping..
