    Post Road Ambush Encounter Map

So, I am trying my hand at writing some 4e encounters, and I have mad a map for one of the encounters, and ambush along an old trade road.

The map is 10 inches by 16 inches, or just the right size to print on 11x17 paper

The map looks really nice, but I doubt the size of the map is big enough. The characters might see the wagon from far away, the fight may develop into a running battle and the ambushers might make use of ranged weapons from across the road ... all things that make you wish to have a bigger piece of terrain to work with.

Yep, I agree, problem then becomes one of, Just how big am I willing to make a map? A running fight down the road is easy to improvise. I use Vinyl mats, so it is simple to just draw the road and say "There is thick forest on either side" and go from there.

Also, while yes the PCs could see the ruined wagon from a bit up the road, the main encounter will start at the wagon, if not I have other maps to lay down at other area.
