    Post Down but not out...

Just wanted to let people know that my system died on me. Luckily I had my work backed up on an external hard drive. This is a temporary set-back. I hope to have the situation worked out as soon as possible (ie buy a new computer). Now I know what to spend my Christmas money on.

I'll be back as soon as I can.
    Cheers,
    Tim

Bad news but well done for having a sensible backup strategy...

Thanks Redrobes. I'm hoping to have a new computer by the end of the week. I'm also hoping that I will be able to slave my old hard drive to the new system and recover the data that I didn't back-up.

Actually, I have to admit that I've been enjoying the down time. It has been like an extended vacation. I am eager to get back to map making though. That and I have so much to catch up on these boards.
    Cheers,
    Tim

Here's my latest update. I'm about to order my new computer but in the meantime I'm using my wife's laptop for my photoshop work (when she isn't using it for her own work). I also have another older computer that I use for my email/internet access/writing purposes. I'm also working on a few more commissions at the moment but once they are done, I hope to get back into the dungeon making 'business'.
    Cheers,
    Tim

i have a very cheap yet effective back-up strategy.
I keep a razor-blade next to my keyboard, and if my computer goes down, I slit my wrists.

That's the way I'm feeling today. My wife's laptop died on us this morning. The good news is the new computers are being ordered tonight. In the meantime, I'm stuck on this piece of crap computer that I use for email and (barely) surfing the web. I am officially without Photoshop access. Let the withdrawal symptoms commence.

I entirely commiserate. My laptop has just been repaired (4 days within warranty it turns out), but it is still in the UK and I don't get it back until my wife comes over at the end of the week. So I'm currently relying on the use of a colleagues computer in work for my mapping when he's not using it. Hence the lack of a completed challenge entry last month and no entry this month. It sucks. At least you're getting a new computer. Go on and make us all jealous - what are you getting?

I don't know what I would do without my Photoshop, it's my drug of choice. I'm hittin Atlantis in June and I'm going to be miserable without my daily fix. Fill me in on what you do to cope

Both my wife and myself are self-employed so until we get our new computers - we're out of work. The good news is we can write off the new computers as a business expense (which they are).

    As for my computer - nothing too fancy. I'm looking at a Dell computer with a Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E2200 (2.2GHZ, 1MB L2 Cache, 800FSB) processor, 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (800MHz - 2DIMMs) and 160 GB harddrive.

I've been writing more than before (some RPG related and some fiction related). I have also been drawing a few maps by hand. I have a cavern complex that I've been working on and a few rough dungeon layouts. My plan is to scan these maps once I can and then use Photoshop to clean them up.
