    Wip Black Coral - From Malazan Book of the Fallen Series

    This is based off of the map at the front of the book, "Toll The Hounds" - with my own mapping "style" applied to it.

    For those not familiar with the series, the city and some of the outlying countryside is engulfed in magical darkness - thus the cloud area over the city itself. The great barrow is a tomb/shrine of a special soldier, it was originally made from various armor/weapons, coins, etc. but since has continued to grow as more and more items are piled onto it.

    Pretty happy with the overall piece though I'm not entirely happy with the water, and I may redo the hills/mountains.

    Feel free to make comments, suggestions, etc.

    Pretty nice... I have to say that my initial thought was that those were cliffs from an ISO view point until I looked closely at the city layout and read your post.

    I thought it was iso too, but it's nice anyway

    I have to say that I thought the same thing. On the plus side though, if they were ISO cliffs, then they would be great!

    I think it's the orientation of the texture. If you rotate it 90 degrees it'll be good.

    I don't think that'll solve it, the texture has lines going in all different directions - always worth a try though. Maybe I need to try a completely different texture or a different rendering of that one. *shrugs*

    Same thing I always use, stacked layers with different textures, with blurring to help blend the different layers - I try to keep the shadowing to a minimum.

    Here's another version where I tweaked the textures a bit.
