Map Fallen Tree Encounter: DCC #55

Great forum! I've been slowly digesting the loads of info and tips here. I figured it's time to be bold and submit a map for your critique. I did it on CC3 with images from CSUAC. It's very basic (I'm just getting to that point in the learning curve where the software is starting to make sense) being mostly images simply dropped on the map. There is, however, some subtle effect use. The encounter is from Dungeon Crawl Classic #55: Ilse of the Sea Drake (specifically, A2). The greener areas away from the river represent a 5' contour line. Anyhow, here it is...

Very nice first post. Bonus points for a map in your first post (enjoy your rep). One thing that I notice is the river. I think the issue here is your ripple lines. Note that the flow of water follows the shape of the river. Though with a shallow brook like this it probably isn't moving fast enough for the ripples to be visible this far away.

I'm not a CC3 user so I can't give ya any pointers (cuz I don't know what the software can do) but I will say that this has a very happy feel to it where I'd frolic with some maidens. I like it, it just looks fun to me.

First post-first map *ding ding ding* Bonus Rep! *bonk*

Not a CC user either but I agree with Nomadic; the water effects on the river are a bit 'off' but other than that very nice.

Cool first map. Are there monsters in the water? Or a giant snake in the fallen treelog?

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and the great tip. I will experiment with the water and post back. While I wasn't happy with it either, I couldn't identify what. I now see why it is the ripples. Considering the distance of the effect (in this case ripples) on the map is one of those things that seem obvious once you know. Well, now I know. Thanks again.

Woekan, yup you got it: two small drakes and their hatchlings in the tree.

    Map

Okay, here is the update. I grabbed a texture from the web, scaled it down to make the waves look more like ripples from a distance, and then applied effects. Better?
