    Post Lurker taking the plunge

    Greetings everyone.

I have been lurking on these forums for a few months being inspired by others work and gradually building up to a big project. I play an online RPG called The Dark Grimoire where i started off making grid maps for navigation but worked up to more artistic maps.

I use Fireworks and a little Paint Shop Pro, i did buy CC3 and had a play but decided good old drawing was more flexible for me. I have done a few maps i was fairly happy with right up until i saw Torstans Map of Dolmen Isle which totally blew me away.

I'm hoping with the advice and hints of the community here i can make a map of a similar style.

I'm really glad you liked it! Welcome to the guild.

The best way to pick up is to start a thread with a WIP. As you ask questions, we'll do our best to answer them. If you have a specific question that you think someone here can answer, you can always send them a message (once you have posted 5 times to prove you are not a robot!).

    Thanks for the welcome

This is the kind of map i was making to help people find there way around in the game:

My first mapping attempt handrawn, the icons where not done by me:

After lots of rethinks i worked with same person again on some of the icons and came up with a more detailed section of the previous map:

    Thanks for looking.

Thanks for posting those, I especially liked the 3rd one.

Again thank you for the kind words.

Here are some more maps to give you an idea of how much i can currently do although the maps on here have already given me new ideas since

As I said I did try Campaign Cartographer, I loved the ease of use but the maps just didn't 'feel' right to me. This the one I was most pleased with and shows the south west of the continent in more detail:

The second maps in the series of three (previous post) was 'drawn' with a mouse but I invested in a graphics tablet afterwards and focused on a Volcano island in the game:

Those maps where based on the game world which already exists. So far my only imagined world is a map of Kimald, a fictional continent close to the games continent of Valorn:

That just about completes my map portfolio pre joining the forum here. A quick question, should i start a new post in the Regional/World mapping section to work through the project I'm currently working on?
