    Post Hello

    Hello,
I'm Maestro and I came here to the Cartographer's Guild after reading about you in a news post on Penny-Arcade.com. I'm running a D&D 3.5 game and I'm getting to the point where I need to start seriously considering going beyond simple hand drawn maps. I was hoping that I could find some tutorials and software recommendations and it seems that those two things do exist here, as well as people who I can ask advice or use as sounding boards for my idea.

I hope I enjoy my stay here!

    Welcome!

The Guild is THE place to get started in mapping (you may trust my very recent experience!).

What I unserstood here is that most softwares have their share of quality and defects, the key point is to read carefully the "Software" forum to understand which will fit best to your way of working, your abilities and your purchasing power.

Welcome to The Guild. In addition to the software subforum I'd suggest perusing the finished map section and the works in progress (wip) section to get an idea of which style you like and which software was used in the making. If money is the main factor in your decision then GIMP is a free version similar to Photoshop and Inkscape is a free version similar to Illustrator.

Welcome! From your avatar, I suspect you're a Wheel of Time fan, so you might enjoy this.

Okay, enough self-aggrandizement. Feel free to ask questions, and we'll do our best to point you toward the tools you need to far exceed your own expectations!
