Thread: Hello from California

    Post Hello from California

Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am a software engineer working in California for the last 10 years or so.

Recently I did a walking tour in Scotland (The West Highland Way) with my brother. During this walk I found myself envisioning a long adventure and walking in far and distant lands. On my return I decided to create a fantasy campaign map. I already had the Profantasy software as I like to do this form time to time.

However this map led me to decide to referee a game of D&D (first time in about 20 years for me) and I now find myself wanting to learn more about making maps and improving my skills. Plus I need to learn how to use the City Designer and Dungeon Designer tools.

Thus, my search has led me here. Thanks in advance for any help and just saying hello.

    Thanks,

    -Devin

Well, you came to the right place to learn about mapping. There are quite a few CC mappers around here, so the best way to learn to use the software is to post a work in progress (WIP) in the appropriate forum and then wait for the hints and suggestions to come rolling in. And trust me, they will.

Most of the people here are quite willing to help if they can. Reading the WIP posts is also a good way to learn some of the tricks used to create maps.

So, Post a WIP early in the process and post often, and just watch your skills expand like you wouldn't believe.
