    Wip C&C Campaign Map

I'm working on a map for a game with my kids in CC3 using the SS1 symbols and thought I'd share.

I like the background you have set up and the overall layout of the map.

    Some points of criticism/questions:
    - The river splitting doesn't look really natural (but you have to wonder does it have to be?).
    - I don't think you should have put any trees on the hills. In between and around is ok, but right on top of them looks weird.
    - What's that brown line? It looks line another river or maybe a border...
    - Did you chose not to put any effects on the trees? Like them dropping a shadow?

    Keep up the good work!

Thank you, Gandwarf, Those are some good things for me to revisit.

The main river in the sw corner flows from nwto se and is joined by the smaller river running ne to sw. I'm not showing that well enough (the dreaded variable river width problem). The 'brown river' is meant to be a trail, as I'm not a fan of dotted lines but I guess I see the issue without them.

Great job on the CD3 maps by the way, that inspired me to pick up copy and I'll be playing more with it in this month's challenge after I get this one done enough to support my son's first game.

I would personally use a dotted line for that trail. Now it looks like a heavily polluted river or border. I am interested to see any new versions you might be doing.

Thanks for the praise on the CD3 maps, good to hear I'm inspiring people to pick up copies of Campaign Cartographer

A lil texture might help that trail or some sort of pattern overlay but once I saw that one sharp bend on the side of a hill I had assumed it to be a trail so maybe that's just me. Otherwise it's a solid base and am looking forward to this proceed.

This is quite a bit of fun to do, thank you for the great feedback. Here is tonight's version. I expect to finish the middle part (so we can play) tomorrow night and then it will slow down as I move to game prep for awhile.

The latest version is at the thread tip.

Not being a CC user, I was wondering if its possible to put textures (similar to a pattern overlay in photshop) on the various 'sheets' -is that the correct term?

I like the map, but I think the grass areas with a bit of texture would really make this 'pop'.

I'm a little confused - the dark green and lighter green designate forest by your key, but you also show it in different areas with a symbol? That would be better if it were made consistent throughout.

Also - you have desert in the middle of a forest? That seems a little odd. Otherwise, good work so far.

    Tip updated.

The white band just looks good to me, but it does suggest desert. I'll have to find a light green that does makes the map pop like the white does for me.

Fiddling with trails and layers and trees. One of the things I like about CC3 is the feeling of building a miniature which I don't always get from PS etc.

It needs more fiddling, and yet the middle is ready for the game. I want to expose the map slowly as it is explored by the players. I'm looking forward to this, and I appreciate all the help I've received from the cartogensia.

This is a palantine barony, cut off from the mother kingdom by <insert calamity>. I'll need another run of villages and such.

I like your forest a lot now, the trails are also better (they don't look like polluted rivers anymore). Your map is definitely improving.

What I don't understand is that the symbols (for example the villages) look like they have been done in only 16 colors or something. It looks more like CC2 than CC3?
