Here is my attempt at pleasing the river police. I doubt I will get a chance to work on this before the competition closes, so this is probably my final version.

I agree. Great looking artistic map. The rivers seem a bit pixelated to me though.

Nice work, have to agree with Torq though - just a bit of pixellation on the rivers - a bit of a blur may help soften that.

Thanks guys. I agree the rivers were a bit pixelated. I applied a blur to them as Steel General recommended and I think they turned out a lot better.

After being inspired to work on the rivers, I decided to try some things with the mountains as well. Please let me know what you think and which version you like better.

    Thanks,

I like bits and pieces of both...

Your first ones were more "crunchy" (which I prefer) but kind of faded out (probably low opacity?). The second are much more 'defined' but very smooth and remind me a bit of the mesas etc. you used to see in the old Road Runner/Coyote cartoons.

I wonder how it would look if you could find a way to combine the two?

I think the new mountains look fantastic on the thumbnail but close up seem rather blurred. I think that if made a bit sharper they will look better than the old mountains. This might just be a personal taste thing though.

Great idea. I tried combining them and this is what I ended up with.

Looks nice, but to me (and maybe it's just me) it looks like they are faded or the opacity is turned way down.
