Wip April Entry: [Region 1][Map 08][Laketown]

I decided to do this city for the following reason:

    1. The city is on a lake.
    2. A delta is right next to it.
    3. A road through the city from SW to NE.
    4. A hint of forest in NE.
    5. A hint of mountains in SW.
    6. Lots of adjacent cities nearby, reachable by land or waterways.
    7. A town center with a tower (church maybe).

I will adapt the hand drawn style and color scheme.

This will be my first city map and hope I can withstand all these challenges I put forth onto myself...lol. I will use Illustrator CS4 and Photoshop CS2 for various tasks. I for the first time will also use my newly acquired Wacom tablet. Still testing it...this baby is one day old, but allready proven to be a preciuos gem for pressure sensitivity not possible with a mouse.

EDIT: Please change the thread heading from "Lakeown" to "Laketown". Thank you.

This is my first layout idea. A large scale map as background and a small scale more detailed city map enclosed in a circular area, like a magnifying glass. The final size will be 1800 by 1200 pixels. Not sure yet if I get enough details of the city, might have to enlarge a bit more. There will be a detailed harbour with ships, some fields with work going on in the delta. I probably have the city buildings in an isometric view, church, tavern,etc...see how far we get...lol.

    Post Town description

Laketown is the main town around the lake area. It's local industries provide the eastern hunting and woodwork towns (North, Middle and Southwood) with localy caught fish and farm produce in exchange for meat and wood for an ever growing town. Tradehill is also a main player importing goods from the west and keep trade alive. Lakewood has also turned into a nice retreat for wounded soldiers and holds many estates for retired generals. A prospering and booming town with a touch of peace and quiet for the elderly...lol. (my future residence when I retire)

P.S. thanks for changing the title.

Here I am just experimenting with one type of building and use the 3D tool in Illustrator. There will be of course at least 10 types of different buildings copied all over the place and of course one church in the middle. Lots of details and shading will be added at the end. I added some more colors (green) and beveled the water. Slowly step by step. As with most of my work, after working out all the procedures and workflow, I probably start from scratch and redo the whole thing. Event though some of the perspectives don't match a 100%, I beleive a slightly out of place perspective and bigger scale of buildings give this a unique look.

P.S. thanks to all of the above comments, reps back for your encouraging words.
