    Map Ivorell - Hand-drawn D&D Campaign Map

Pencils and micron pens on A3 paper.
I'm sorta killing two birds with one stone with this. It's my submission for a map drawing contest on a forum I frequent and I'm going to use it for my D&D campaign. And since my players seem to like tolkienesque maps best, I've decided to give photoshop a rest and do an old-fashioned handmade map.

I tried to have the map reflect the player characters' knowledge of the surroundings of their home town Cen Heddan (to the right of the center of the map). The nearer you get to the edge of the map, the less the PCs know about it, the emptier it looks. I might add things to the map as the PCs come across them, as long as it doesn't spoil the look of the map. I don't want to clutter it up with loads of illegible details.

Unfortunately, I don't own a scanner, so I had to take a picture of it. So in spite of the size, it's still a bit blurry.

I hope you like it. Comments and critique are more than welcome, of course

Absolutely delicious. Your players must be horribly spoiled.

    Repped!
Very cool map, great looking mountains and forests.

There's lots of people posting nice handdrawn maps at the moment. Too bad I can only draw stick people and not much else. This kind of map is great for a novel by the way. I am sure that if you get to scan the image it will look even better.

So, how much time did you spend on this map?

Absolutely beautiful. I can't imagine how my attempts at writing labels in such a script on a hand drawn map would look. Well... I can... but my imagination doesn't like it.

Add me in as another impressed viewer. Trees, mountains, colors...all good stuff.

    Thank you all

@Naeddyr: well, map-wise they are, I suppose. Wether they like the rest of my DM-ing remains to be seen. It's a group I've only played in and I haven't been the Dungeon Bastard in like... 6 years or something

@Gandwarf: hee, een landgenoot The map took me many, many hours, but how many of those were actually spent doing something productive, I don't know. I have a bad habit of allowing MSN to distract me. *whistles*

@Ramah: ah well... I cheated on the labels I downloaded a font I like, then printed labels in various sizes, which I then put over my map and traced with a sharp 5H pencil. This made a little 'dent' in the paper (is that what I should call it?) which I then traced again in HB pencil and if I liked it again with a pen.
A bit of work, but it's worth it. And after a while you simply get the hang of it so you can write the labels in pencil straight away. Just draw a few guidelines first

Looks great, and the extra work in the labeling dept. definitely paid off!

    Heey, Nederlanders . *zwaait*

Great map. All the elements work well together and are well done, I especially like the mountains.
