Thread: Volian Empire

    Post Volian Empire

This map was done for a campaign I'm setting up on the internet strategy game Aevum Obscurum. http://aevumobscurum.com/ Our next step before we can start listing playable maps is to break this down into smaller regions (some city sized, some maybe large enough to span the distance between two cities). If anybody has any suggestions on how to create interesting maps of that size using photoshop or gimp, I'd appreciate any help you can give me. Anyway, here's the map.

The map is quite nice but....The font color makes it difficult to read. Moreso the dark fonts than the light fonts. For me the best color is the yellow, then the green, followed by blue with red being the most difficult to read.

I like the map symbols. What's the Olaf's cross mean? Temple, big monument, museum? In Finland, that signs is used (on traffic signs etc.) for historical sightseeing targets, cuz it's a historical sign.

Its a nice little map, but I have to agree about the font colors. I'd try something a little lighter.

I also took the liberty of re-attaching your map so that it uses the boards previewer.

Thanks for the comments guys. The font colors were supposed to identify different factions and their territory but I suppose I could try some brighter shades.

Olaf's Cross? Not familiar with that, the symbols are from the 'wingdings' font. The legend at the top left of the map might help? I think you mean the symbol I used for fortresses.

Thanks for reattaching it too I guess. Doesn't really have the proper effect unless you look at it full size though.

I agree with all the others. Nice map, but you should do something about the colors.
Anyway, your first map, your first rep!

If you want to create lots of maps with the same texture bases and you have photoshop, then have a try of my non-destructive mapping tutorial (link in my sig), once you've got the hang of it, your workflow should be quite fast as you won't have to spend a lot of time texturing every map. Nice start though I do agree with what the others have said about the font colours.
