Thread: Star Wars resources?

    Help Star Wars resources?

    Hey all;

New poster and new cartographer here. I'm currently GMing an online Star Wars RPG and I've decided to stop describing battles in terms of "You're 12 squares away from the Wookiee and 18 squares north of the power generator." And so, I'm starting into the map-making business.

Nothing too elaborate to start with. My players are currently on Lok (think Tatooine, but with more rocks) so it's not too intensive in terms of terrain. I've already discovered RPGmapshare for general scenary and The Holocron for some Star Wars specific stuff. I was wondering if there's any other good resources out there for Star Wars material? More specifically, buildings and building tiles, since that's what I'm finding I'm in need of at the moment.

Any help or general advice would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the guild. I can't help ya but I'm sure that there will be some members stopping by who can...usually within a day or so. Once they've got ya linked up, make sure that you post up some of those maps so that we can see 'em

Will do. I've got one in the works right now, but so far it looks fairly sloppy and unprofessional, so I'm trying to figure out how best to clean it up before I post it.

If your looking to create maps, the best thing to do is to find some good textures.

One question that is very important is how do you plan to present the maps to your players:

    • Print at full scale(1 inch = 5 feet) using a plotter or other large paper feed printer.
    • Print at full scale to regular paper and piece together after printing
    • print at smaller than full scale onto a single piece of paper
    • show on a monitor as a static image
    • use a VTT for more dynamic viewing of the image

One you find some tileable textures you like and spend an hour or three (not to count a few hundred hours finding textures.. its an addictive passtime) learning, you can make some nice interiors in 5-10 minutes.

Also, I seem to think Gameprinter made up a set of tiles for sci-fi stuff sometime late last year(like perhaps October-December ish??). Do a search for posts started by him and within a few minutes you should find it.

    Welcome Aboard!

Don't know of any sources you (and JFJr) haven't already mentioned, but check the sci-fi forum here. Someone else was doing some Star Wars stuff.

Dundjinni has some Sci-fi textures and buildings. Just use the search engine in the user forums to find it.
Bill Stickers is innocent! It isn't Bill's fault that he was hanging out in the wrong place.

For purchasable stuff, there's (From WotC) STAR WARS TILES

These are just like the DUNGEON TILES, but obviously for Star Wars.

    For LARGE maps there's: http://starwarsmaps.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the advice everyone! I'll be sure to do some searching of the forums.

Since some people are wondering, I will clarfiy that this is an online RPG, so I'm doing it via a forum. My players are just going to be viewing the maps online as soon as I make them, so that's the general idea behind it. Hence why I'm looking more for online stuff to use.
