I tend to listen to the Epic Metal stuff too...Like Rhapsody (of Fire?), DragonForce, Kamelot, Iced Earth, Epica (AWESOME!!! and with a VERY hot redhead vocalist), etc.

Reason number 1 to listen to Epica: http://images.google.com/images?q=si...title&resnum=1

Within Temptation is good too...I tend to gravitate toward Female vocalist lead metal bands a lot lately.

    Oh, let's see, I suppose I fit into that eclectic category with the following list;

Monsters of Rock (Volumes I and II)
    Badlands
    Poison
    Sister Hazel
    Black Crows
    Buck Cherry
    Megadeth
    Midnight Syndicate
    Tesla
    Godsmack
    Grim Reaper
WASP (particularly The Headless Children and Crimson Idol CDs)
    Queensryche

Toss in a little Alice Cooper, Ozzy, Motley and AC/DC and that about completes my list of mapping/writing music.

I always marvel at how many of us are all metalheads

Myself, LOTS of Judas Priest, some Motley Crue, KISS, OZZY, HELIX, etc, etc..

I don't listen music when mapping. Actually I have to admit I haven't been listening to music at home for some time now . BUT if I had to listen some music when mapping, then probably I would start with some of the following bands: Finntroll, older production from Amorphis, Sonata Arctica, Summoning (lyrics are mostly J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth themed), Korpiklaani, Moonsorrow, Turisas, Verjnuarmu, Ajattara (somewhat heavier music), Wintersun. (It doesn't mean I listen to all of those bands, but some of them are worth checking out) Most of them have taken influence from folk music or otherwise are suitable for fantasy setting.

hehe, I was looking at Cradle of Filth videos on youtube, and saw Finntroll in the related, and checked them out, very cool band. I will have to check out those others.

kawaii-radio.net has a not quite pro yet DJ by the name of Revolution Boi who mixes J-house and J-trance then puts out free continuous albums (so that each song leads into the other without breaking) of his remixes... I download those, and some soundtracks of animes and movies I really enjoyed...

But that's pretty much my music for all work, and the local rock-pop mix station in the truck.

I'll second AC on the radio rivendell thing, very nice.

Well, lately I've been listening to a mixed batch. I've included youtube links for a few of the groups/bands/music.

Blondie (mainly Autoamerican, Plastic Letters & Parallel Lines - the last one on vinyl)
    Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros
Avengers in SciFi (Japanese alternative rock/electronic)
Fantastic Plastic Machine (Japanese Techno/House) - this vid is a fan made video
Johnny Cash at San Quentin (Johnny Cash is d'man!)
    Cubismo Grafico Five (Japanese Punk/Ska/Pop)
    Cowboy Bebop Original Soundtracks
    Flatt & Scruggs (Bluegrass/Old Country)
    John Lee Hooker (blues master)
    Big Mama Thornton (blues queen)
Messer Chups (Russian/German duo - take 50s/60s Surf instrumental and mix it with b-movie motifs and add some contemporary remixing) - the woman in the linked vid is the group's bass player
    Portishead (British experimental techno/soul/hip-hop)
The Best of Godzilla 1954 - 1975 (Soundtrack / Music of Akira Ifukube)
Philip Glass - Koyaanisqatsi & the Kundun Soundtracks
The Conan Soundtrack (essential D&D music for me)

    That's just a few.
    Cheers,
    Tim
