Did anyone mention Led Zepplin? They are soooo awesome to listen to while being creative... and the occasional Tolkien reference comes up too boot

I kind of over did it with Zeppelin in my High School years but I still listen to them now & then. Two other albums I do like listening to when being creative (writing or mapping) are Atom Heart Mother & Meddle (especially the song Echoes) both by Pink Floyd.

I tend to plug my ipod into my stereo and set it on shuffle, giving me anything from the Blood Brothers to Andrew Bird to Bryan Scary to Return to Forever!

I listen to a lot of jazz, older stuff from the 50s and 60s, Astrud Gilberto, Billie Holliday, Nina Simone, etc, etc.

And then I mix it up with Blue Oyster Cult, Sisters of Mercy, and Clannad.

Currently I have been mapping to Danman's amazing stuff.

On that note here's an awesome piece that fits this place perfectly (with danman's music in the background to boot).

While working on my fantasy maps I listen to several moviesoundtracks. My current playlist contains the following tracks:

    - Gently as She goes - from Beowulf Soundtrack - by Alan Silvestri
    - A Hero Comes Home - from Beowulf Soundtrack - by Alan Silvestri
    - Beowulf Slays the Beast - from Beowulf Soundtrack - by Alan Silvestri
    - What we Need is a Hero - from Beowulf Soundtrack - by Alan Silvestri (Boy this is giving me goose bumps)
    - Prologue: Anvil of Crom - Conan the Barbarian Soundtrack - by Basil Poledouris (classic)
    - Hymn to Red October - Hunt for Red October Soundtrack - by Basil Poledouris
    - Woad to Ruin - King Arthur Soundtrack - by Hans Zimmer
    - One Day - Pirates of the Carribean III Soundtrack - by Hans Zimmer (sounds quite like "Woad to Ruin" and like another Track by H.Z. from Gladiator OST)
    - Promentory - The Last of the Mohicans Soundtrack - by Randy Edelman
    - Roll Tide: End Titles - Crimson Tide Soundtrack - by Hans Zimmer
    - Main Title - The Incredible Hulk Soundtrack - by Craig Armstrong
    - Opening - Elizabeth: The Golden Age Soundtrack - by Craig Armstrong
    - Septimus - from Stardust Soundtrack - by Ilan Eshkeri (awsome one)
    - Lamina's Lair - from Stardust Soundtrack - by Ilan Eshkeri
    - France 1186 - Kingdom of Heaven Soundtrack (Complete Recording Sessions) - by Harry Gregson-Williams (also quite awsome)
    ... and so on

In all honesty the background 'noise' I have when mapping is either my newborn daughter snoring and my wife knitting when I'm at the PC at night or general office noise when I whip out the laptop to do some work over lunch.

The chance to play music while doing anything never mind mapping would be a fine thing.
