Okay, With my world map mostly finished... (the low res is done, the high res needs the text layers redone) I've started on one of the continents... I'm trying to do a 11x17 200dpi map of Beledira. Just scaling the flat and adding details was a bad idea from the start, and after attempting it and seeing how bad I noticed that somethings just looked to blurry...
So I've opened up the original xcf... and grabbing layers that I think will scale well, and re-doing things that don't. (Like the rivers, they can't simply be scaled because the original map scale meant the few I did draw were all 10 miles wide (at a single pixel))
I don't have anything to post right this second, but I'd take suggestions from people who've had to do this in the past.

Looks like some of your islands in the south got cut-off.
Also the transition between the green on the coast and the rest is rather abrupt (I'm assuming you haven't gotten to that yet).
Overall it seem to have scaled fairly well.

So I've redone the sand layer, and tried the mountains layer...
If using RobA's gimp mountains tut... RIGHT DOWN SETTINGS FOR SCALING LATER... especially if you want to add smaller mountains to the "zoomed in" map... I tweaked and tweaked, and still ended up with less than perfect meshing...
Anywho... looking good so far...
Personally I don't think it really fits with the outer glow on the continent. Perhaps if the glow was a little more gradual it would work better.
And some deep trenches in the ocean where there is no land around would give it some more depth (pardon the pun ).
