Or open http://maps.google.com go to Germany, zoom in and start combining parts of placenames!

Yet another idea is find a german to english (or reverse) translator and look up the words you want to use and mash them together however suits your fancy.

That's what I did on my Istria map (which I need to wrap up), except I used Tagalog.

    Hello,

I posted a name generator written in VB2005 a few weeks ago for english and german city names. It combines a pre- and a suffix, like e.g. Stein-brück. You can also expand the text files. By the time the list growed, I can send you the updated files if you like.

I hope this was not ironic

Here is the actual version. I also added the Open Office Sheet with the names. Very useful to find doubles. Just save each sheet as a *.csv (*.txt) and add the number of items at the beginning. Of course the program can create combinations that don't make sense, but it was just an hour efford to write it.

Finding typical prefixes is difficult, I used names of trees, animals, minerals, numbers etc. You can also use the name of rivers, local nobles, gods etc. as a prefix.

Another possibility is to use two words, e.g. Burg XXX (castle) or Feste XXX (small castle).

I used the program for the attached map, which is not finished yet, but it was very helpful when finding lots of names.

I don't use Open Office, will this work with Microsoft Office?
