    Wip ATL Commie dominance WIP

Heres a map ive been working on for a few days. I know its not as impressive as half of the stuff on this site but im just trying to get some comments on how to make it better.
Basic POD: Hitler has a moment of sanity after Pearl Harbor and doesn't declare war on the US. The US Congress, being hyper-focused on Japan doesn't declare war on Germany. WWII turns into USA vs. Japan ((obvious winner USA)) and the USSR vs the Nazis ((not so obvious winner USSR)). And thus the Soviets take over all of Europe with no Allied D-Day to stop them.

Basically everything that is some sort of Red or Pink is Commie.

I notice that on a lot of these type of maps that the colors are too close together and I get confused as to what is what. I was looking and thinking what the heck did we (USA) have to do with something down in South America. I can barely read the key but I think it says Bolivia. Maybe they need a different color. I was trying to find what Saudi Arabia was and read it as Ireland and thought "what?!" The reds and pinks get confusing too...they all blend together and I just say it's Soviet. What if you tried something like red stripes and red dots? Larger size might help too, but I don't know for sure.

On a different tangent I am assuming this is a post war map, or at least after 1946 since the Germans and Soviets would be nearly stalemated for a long time (no D-Day = more men on the Russian front) before the Soviets finally over ran them with sheer numbers. So I would think that those Asian Pacific islands might have more US influence than they do since we went island hopping all the way. And with a complete focus on that area I would think that they might stay under the influence and possibly bleed over into southeast Asia and totally avoid the two wars (police action) there. With the US knocking on Russia's back door like that it might prolong the stalemate with the Reich as well. But that would set up a nice little scuffle with China in the future. Japan might be greenish as well since we stayed and did rebuilding there.

Of course, if you are having the US totally pull out of the area then never mind But isolationism was dead by this point so I dunno. Anyway, maybe try the stripes and dots idea - I know it's passe but it's easier to understand.

Many thanks for your suggestions. The stripes idea actually is on that map, the only problem is that when i try to upload the map through photo-bucket, it tends to shrink the map. The lighter reds and pinks in Asia and Eastern Europe are the stripes blended into the white. Im still working on fixing it. As for Asia, some excellent points so i shall have to take another look at it. The coloring for the most part is a problem of the site that i post these maps on. Tell me something, do most of these Alt history maps come out of a place called AH.com? If so the problem of similar coloring is USC ((Universal Standard Color)). What USC is is an attempt to solve the numerous confusions of different mapmakers using different colors for the same nations. This typically confused everyone until several board officials came up with the standard in about 07. Everyone's been using it since. The typical Communist color is Red, the Pinks are variations of said red.
The main thing im trying to actually get across with the map in general is that the Stalin gets all of Europe and uses a Communist Marshall plan to rebuild it along Socialist lines. With his armies not having to focus on defending Eastern Europe, he is free to influence the rest of the world. This leads to a much, MUCH larger Communist bloc, consisting of four major nations, the European Socialist Union ((Dark Red)), the USSR ((Red)), the Celestial People's Republic of China ((Pink in China, and yes i KNOW how crazy that sounds)), and the Union of Revolutionary Republics of South Asia ((Pink in India)). There are other minor Communist/Socialist nations around the world as well. And as for what the uber Bolivia is, its the Bolivian Empire.
And the date of the map is 2003, at the time of the Fifth International, called by China following the collapse of Soviet hegemony over the world-wide Communist movement.

Hey nice idea, it probably could happen. I do agree with Ascensions, some of the colours are too close too each other.

One other thing I must say though... Glory to the Anzac Republic. Lest we forget.

I can only agree with what the others have said, though I do find the back story interesting as well.

Lord, I hope we don't institute a standard color scheme for things. I can see why they would want to do so, just don't agree with it. Well, anyway, do you have a larger version, maybe we can the stripes on something larger and then it none of it would matter

If i were to post the whole back-story for the world up to this point....well lets just say that it would fill the whole rest of this page.

Eh well the AH forum is a very crazy place. That and that maybe 50% of the mapmakers there are teenagers that dont include keys in their maps, so this is kind of a necessity. Anyways do you have any ideas on how to enlarge the map at all with photo bucket?

No idea, never used photobucket. What is the original size of the map? Instead of linking to a smaller version at PB, why not just upload the original here? When you're writing a post, at the bottom there is a button that says "Manage Attachments". Click on that, and a new window opens up, browse to your file then click upload.

All I can say is poor Iran, listed down there with all those Invincible Empires and whatnot. The other nations probably make fun of them
