Wip WIP- Killungaln Simple Fantasy map

Ok so after about a month of messing around with GIMP i finally found enough features to get a starting map that i like for this little project of mine. So far i have the seas done, the grass and dirt pretty much finished and the land defined. I have been using a hodgepodge of RobA's tuts, and i think that i am finally getting the hang of it.

Comments on the map so far are welcome.

Coming along nicely... the only thing that 'stuck out' to me was the transiton between the large area of 'dirt' and the green areas around it. It is very abrupt (except for a couple of spots). You may want to try adding a bit of blur and/or noise to help with that.

Looks really good so far except for what SG mentioned about the large central patch of dirt having sharp edges. Keep on keepin on.

Part 2: Mountains added and dirt layer smoothed out totally.
    Comments welcome.

EDIT: A few questions to those looking at my maps.
    1. How would i do a snowy area on the northern Continent's coast?
    2. I want to add a forest in the little pocket gap in the main mountain range but i dont know what height i should use. Every time i try i just make green mountains. Halp?
    3. Is the mountains surrounding desert area ecologically realistic?
