    Hi all - I was looking for a photoshop tutorial in mapmaking and got onto this site due to Ravells excellent guide.

    My attempts at maps before the tutorial were like this:



    And the current one i'm working on is here:



    So that's a big improvement

    I've also been using wilbur for the shadows and rivers - takes a little getting used to, but amazing once it starts working.

    I've seen a few cool tutorials for "ye olde mappe" styles, so that might be the next project...

    thanks for all the nice comments

    A lot of the 'prettiness' comes from the last 3 layers, where I add a golden glow, up the contrast, and use a bumpmap from wilbur. Without all that, it's a lot more flat:
