    Default Long time lurker

    Hello Guildmates,

As the subject line state, I've been enjoying the site for a while now and finally decided to ask some advice. I've an idea for a cave system that I want to make my players suffer through and I'm having a difficult time sketching out the map. I don't have access or experience with the software that looks just awesome on this site.

The trouble I'm having is it's easy to work in 2D, I can draw up a shallow to deep cave system with character. I can also work up a leveled complex, but the issue is that caves are nice and neat dungeons where a flight of stairs takes the PC from lvl 1 to lvl 2 of the dungeon. a gorge might be transversed with a bridge on lvl 1, but the bottom of the gorge has an opening at lvl 2.5 of the dungeon.

Does anyone have any suggestions about mapping this out so it doesn't get confussing in game?

    cheers,
    Dr. G

    First, welcome to the guild.

Second, I know Torstan has done a couple maps that are along the lines I think you are looking for.

I think you would enjoy: Bandits Lair

Another map that has some caverns with levels as well as a tutorial explaining how it was done: The Dragon's Lair

There is also a post regarding an ISO map WIP in the dungeon/subterranean map forum.

    Have fun!

    Thanks!

I'll look at the links, I know it's going to sound stupid for writing this but,

What's an ISO map WIP? WIP is probably work in progress, but ISO? Forgive the noob.

Hey, we're all new to the terminology at some point, wasn't till I came here that I became familiar with WIP

Iso is short for isometric - that's the view where you're looking down at an angle, and usually angled to the side as well, so you're looking at the corners straight on.
