Thread: The Southlands - 3d map.

  1. #1

Default The Southlands - 3d map.

This was an unpaid commission I took from the map requests forum. I was fooling around with photoshop CS4 extended's new big toy; being able to paint directly onto 3d meshes. I was amazed how stable photoshop was - I think I had one crash throughout the whole process. This was a learning exercise so I used the map commission as a guinea pig to try out the 3d work and I was really pleased with the result. There's quite a bit I'd probably do differently now I've gone through it once, but that will have to wait for the next map.

    Cheers

Neat stuff here Ravs - can't rep you at the moment.

It does seem a bit pixellated when zoomed in to full rez, but that may just be me.

Cheers SG, it is pixellated zoomed in, the super duper size render would have taken too long to do and I wasn't sure whether the person who commissioned this map might want a different angle.

Really excellent work. Always great to see a new method being worked out over here.

Shifty wanted a couple of minor adjustments and the correction of a typo (my bad)...this is it, in hopefully the final final form without pixellation etc on zoom.

Gahh! The town at the point of the cape is now in the sea...Gah! Shifty which way is north?....better put a scale in it too. I wonder if I can repair the position of that town in PS rather than having to render it again and take it into PS.

    Phew...previous image updated.
