I love that border! How did you make it?

GygaxLives: Using GIMP, I first created a flat-color version of the border pattern, tileable as 100x100 pixel squares (and equivalent sized square pieces for the corners). Then I created a black&white copy to use as bump map, experimented with applying that on a marble texture, and played around with blend modes on the coloured layer to add the coloration. There's more to it, but that's the basic process. It took quite a lot of experimentation and fine-tuning to end up with the current look.
