    The white of the icons is a bit overwhelming. What if you tried one of the darkening blend modes? Also, the aliasing quality of the icons and the coastal outline is at odds with the rest of the map.

    Very nice image! I'm eager to see what you do with labeling, especially if you keep these icons. That and the cartouche(s) could do a lot to help the two styles integrate.

    must agree with midgardsormr, they clash with the map. Either blend them as he said or perhaps "anchor" them with a shadow, but even then the white would need reducing ... otherwise really nice

    I would like to know if you have any updates to the icons. And I would like to use them if that is ok. Did you ever make brushes out of them? The pic you posted could be used to make my own but the grey background make it difficult.
