Tutorial GIMP 2.6.8

I wanna know if someone have a tutorial to create Maps, for RPG games, utilizing GIMP 2.6.8. I tried to do a map but it's horrible.

I closed the window wiht the layers and channels, but i don't konw how open it again...Please help me i need of this window D=

I don';t have GIMP handy, but on the Window menu bar, there should be somthing like "Recently Docked Windows" or something to that.. I think there are only 3 items on that menu, so one of them should get you close to what you want. Also, be sure to check out the GIMP tutorial from Gimp.org. I would suggest downloading it locally and then configure the GIMP preferences to use the local copy so you don't get error messages when you go to the Help menu + it allows you to get help even when you are offline.
