Dyson's Floating Isles by Dyson Logos

    November/December 2016 Lite Challenge Results

Last month, for the Oct/Nov challenge, we went underworld. This time, Bogie challenged Guilders to take to the skies and 'Map a Flying Island'. Any style of map was acceptable, so long as it floated.

We had an amazing response to this challenge, and it was another of those months where the calibre of entries was as high (or maybe even higher) than what we see in the regular challenge. Even better was the spirit of friendliness, support and encouragement between entrants, sentiments that are sadly lacking in many internet forums. Long may it continue!

    But on to the entries...

Once again we had a wide range of mapping styles and interpretations of the challenge criteria. Among the entries, we had Bogie's photo-realistic "Holoste-Castle in the Sky" and mixerbach's buried spaceship entry "Laihlimmo Celeste". We also had a couple of classic fantasy-style entries including Abu Lafia's "Flying Island of Asun" and Thomrey's "Space Oddity" complete with Beatles and Bowie references. There were a few wonderfully hand-drawn entries, including "Hiria Hegan" by UrbaNick6, "Ruven" by Tulio Botinha and "The flying city of Badieux" by dvg94 (our third-placed entry).

Voting was nail-bitingly close with only three votes separating the top three entries. Our runner-up (by one vote) was icemaneli186 with his steampunk entry "Steam Island" (and check out the later coloured version too), however this month our congratulations go to Dyson Logos for his entry "Dyson's Floating Isles" Dyson is a long-time mapmaker but this was his first Guild challenge entry, and it clearly made quite an impression! Dyson collects a silver compass, and you can check out his WIP thread here.

December 2016/January 2017 Lite Challenge : Map a Dangerous Place

Our new Lite Challenge is up and running, and this month's theme is Danger! Bogie says...

This is as wide open as it gets, Map someplace Dangerous. Now, you can take the straightforward approach and map a Swamp, a volcano, a Comet, a raging river, a valley full of cannibals, Kong Island, etc. Or, you can get creative and map a haunted house, a dark and dangerous alley, Your In-Laws house, a country overrun by the Zombie Apocalypse. So Many Possibilities. Map it any way you want to, any style any genre.. Whatever you prefer.

Let's see some dangerous hotspots mapped by our members. A silver compass is at stake. More info here.
