Hello everyone. I've been trying to visit these forums for a very long time, but the website was always timing out. This is the first time I've actually been able to log-in.
I'm hoping to develop some map making skills. In the last 12 months, I've visited a large number mapping sites, and watched quite a few tutorials on youtube. After a few failed attempts, I finally made a map that I'm happy with. Though I never really finished it, I thought I would share.

Very solid...and that's not meant to be a slap. I particularly like the steppe in the top right. With the map being colored you might want to make the ocean match the rivers...the parchment kinda threw me for a sec. Well done. You will go far. Welcome and glad to have ya here.

Very nice! It looks like you've already seen the Zombie Nirvana tutorials. Are you using Photoshop?
I think the best advice I can offer is to look into buying a drawing tablet, and then take a look at Hapimeses' mountain tutorial. http://www.cartographersguild.com/showthread.php?t=1669
Hap's process will work in any raster drawing application--Gimp, Photoshop, Painter, etc. We keep hoping he'll do another one for other terrain types, but it's been a while since we last heard from him.
Anyway, welcome to the Guild, and I hope your connection issues don't continue to plague you.

I echo what everyone else has said... very nice for you first attempts. Given the parchment you are using with the cut out, you may want the think about making the "background" (ie, the little bit around the parchment) into an alpha channel and saving it as a png.
I agree on the river/ocean colors needing to be close to each other... As for the mountains, "if" you want to give them some more life, start playing around with the smudge tool in if your using GIMP or Photoshop. With a bit of time, you can really make your mountains pop and each seem separate. If you want an example, I happen to be working on a map with ISO mountains where you can get an idea of what it might look like here. Don't get me wrong, it's not "needed", but with the nice detail already in the map, making the mountains more individual will take it to the next level.
Anyway, nice map, and Repped for posting such a nice map on your first post!

Thanks for the input everyone!
I'm have a beast of a time accessing this website. As soon as I made this thread, I lost connection. I was able to reconnect using a proxy server. Really odd. This is the only site I've had this kinda of trouble.
