    Map Sperhatym

My First Map that I made using Photoshop CS3 together with an aid of basic tutorial videos and a little bit tweaking on the island effects.

    Indicators:
    - Mountains are in Dark Brown
    - Rivers (well obviously, it is blue. )

The name of the island is Sperhatym, based on the fantasy novel that I am working right now.

Criticisms are open for more improvements.

As a first time run at mapping with CS3 I think the effort is solid, with the land mass having potential.

Two things immediately jump out at me. Excessive blur and the rivers don't seem to make a whole lot of sense. I know there are some good threads on rivers, I would certainly look around for those while also looking at more real world maps and their river systems.

Yeah, the rivers are really wonky, and I don't see why you would blur the whole thing like that.

Hey, Vincent - welcome to the Guild!

Please take a good look at Redrobes' tutorial How to Get Your Rivers in the Right Place. That'll stop your water from flowing uphill, or whatever odd thing is happening on Sperhatym :-).

The blur isn't doing anything good for you. It may be useful at some point in the construction of your landforms, but you'll pretty soon want to sharpen it up - maybe a threshold operation of some sort? I know nothing of Photoshop with which to advise you - sorry.
