    Default Novel Map Request Take 2

    Hey all,

    I had made this request last year and then a number of factors ended the project (lost work, moved to a new city, etc...)

    I have since then become more settled, had a nice job since last fall and am ready to move forward with this again.

    I have contacted the original interested parties, but fear some of them have either moved on, or may no longer be interested.

    The details of the first request are repeated below, the only thing I would say is that I want to be able in the end to blow this up to poster size (24x36ish) so it would have be a high res file in the end.

    Below you will find the original post/request and I am open to all offers and discussions.

    Since I was a lad I loved the maps that I would find at the front (usually) of fantasy novels, sometimes lingering hours in the W.H. SMITH at the Montreal train station lookin from book to book for more maps. Here are some examples of what I mean;

    http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~madsb/home/r...orig/south.gif
    http://www.pvv.ntnu.no/~madsb/home/r...orig/north.gif

    While the above ones range in style, they have a uniform sort of feel for me. I dunno, they remind me of my youth.

    So what is this request?

    Well by now you should all be quite intimate with the endless effort that Coyotemax and I had done called "The West". The final version I settled on is this;

    This Link No Longer Works, I am unsure if I can upload the actual file but will try to attach it to this post

    Now while I really like the look of this map, I want one that is done in the style of the ones listed above. That would really make a world of difference to me to say the least. I wouldn't require it to be labelled, as I can do that myself.

    Sizewise I would want to be able to print it up at a nice poster size in the end, so high rez I guess, though to be sure I am unclear as to the relative dimensions of print vs. resolution so any knowledge you bring would be awesome.

    There will be a few points on the map that would need to be addressed (missing rivers, cliff faces, giant walls, etc...) but there isn't much of that in the end.

    In regards to rights, I will have the right to use the image for commercial purposes (art credit begin given to artist in this case), the artist will have the right to exhibit the image as part of his portfolio but not to exploit it for commercial gain.

    In regards to payment, well I don't have a lot of money, so I guess for any artist interested, contact me via PM and we can work something out, though I am hoping to do this for around $200.00 in the end.

    Well if there is any further information you require, please fire me off a PM and we can discuss.

    Cheers!

    Hiya AslanC,

    What time frame are you looking for?

    Hey Gidde,

    The time frame is very flexible, I would only need it completed and done by the end of the summer, so very lax time requirements.

    Hey, should have checked this before, but all of your original style links are broken ... try going through the finished maps/cartographer's choice forums and picking style samples from there instead (that way we're not clicking off-site and the links won't break).

    Here are a few examples that are working right now;

    Unfortunately I have looked through the gallery here and am not find continent sized maps in this style, more local maps or single baronies, etc...

    Ah! In that case, I'd be interested ... if you're thinking of a poster map, would a color version (for the poster) & a black and white version (for the novel) be appropriate? I've been refining an ink-and-watercolor style that could do both with the same process pretty easily.

    This is my best example of the style; it's done with ink on paper. Can do it that way or digitally (which would be smoother) as you prefer.
