Can't wait to see it!
I will now try out some good ways of doing village/town mapping. I want to try to have the roofs shaded correctly on the map and I want it to be done automatically depending on how the house is turned.
After some work I'm finally beginning to find a way
The image below is just the houses with shaded roofs. I will make more later (lots of work for each house). (The houses are from the dundjinni forums.)

The roof shading thing is the main reason I just draw them from scratch each time. I don't know how to achieve it automatically in photoshop (if it is even possible).
Those are some nice buildings, by the way.
I sortof pulled a few tricks. I first tried with the lighting filter (with an alpha channel) and the result was ok but I could not move the houses afterwards. Now I'm back to good old bevel/relief layer style which works ok (but far from perfect) but each house have at least three layers so it's not recommended for large cities
Also when I scale them down the bevel layer style dosn't scale correctly.

So this image is actually posted in another thread but I wanted it here as well... hope you don't mind.
Castles! Here's a quick test of crenelations.
Thanks to Ravells for how to do this easily: http://www.cartographersguild.com/ho...tml#post204033

Well I dislike the shadow problem too... but nice work indeed here.
A really quick snapshot during work! Not ready for comments/critique really but this will probably be the general style. This is about full resolution.

I really like your cobblestone path texture. Only thing I am not so sure about are the lines around the waters edge. They remind me too much of the coastal ones you see on the more traditional world maps so I'm not sure if they suit this style.
Thanks! I've adjusted the water line edge a bit and added trees. This is 50% resolution. The image file size will be epic - let's see how my computer will cope with this...
Still very very WIP but comments welcome. Especially on the trees/wood.
The trees actually looked too realistic so I had to adjust the colors etc a bit.

Excellent, I really like how this is shaping up. The trees almost look 3 dimensional, and I like it!
