Hi,
I'm wanting to create some small maps with a very victorian inspriation, I want cobbled streets and flag stone pavments, gas lights and red brick buildings...
Trouble is, I can't get anything that looks like realistic cobbles. Or flag stones without drawing each and every one.
I'm using GIMP, and I assume I will want some patters of some variety, but I haven't the foggiest where to start!
Thanks
Nev

It's worth doing a search over on the Dunjinni forums. Here's all their cobbestone threads:

The Search button is at the top of their Forums->User Creations forum. That should get you loads of good stuff:

Check out the Mapping Elements section, I know I did a cobbles tiling texture and I'm pretty sure others maybe me too (can't remember) have done tiling textures for flagstones too. Just checked, there are some in the Land / Sea Textures sticky in the Mapping Elements section, probably others dotted around in the rest of the section too.
If you want to know how to make the, then for the cobbled effect you want to use a voronoi fill pattern, and for the tiles is basically broken up squares. I've attached a couple of textures below which may / may not be what you're after.

I draw each and every one, but I've used photo textures of cobbles at: http://www.cgtextures.com

If you want to draw them, that's one answer. You also can take digital photos of the real thing and run them through a program like imageSynth. In addition, you can download such textures free. The Dundjinni site (http://www.dundjinni.com was mentioned above. Another good address is http://www.rpgmapshare.com. If you want specimens made from digital photos of real European cobblestone, you can download our free and open textures and fills set. Go to: http://www.vintyri.org/vintyri/vccindex.htm
