Here is another one, this time an arctic region - more clouds and lots of white stuff

I made this today. I just wanted to share it.

I made it with 100% gimp filters and no painting. It would take very little time if you don't have to do any experimentation; my experimenting actually took me a great deal of time. I could write down the process if anyone is interested. If anyone has any criticism I would like to hear that as well.
Some useful cartography facts:
Circumference (C) of the Earth is about 25,000 miles or 40,000 km.
Highest point on Earth is 5.5 miles (8.9 km) above sea level (ASL/BSL).
Lowest point of land on Earth is 1/4 mile (0.4 km) BSL.
Lowest elevation in the ocean is 6.8 miles (10.9 km) BSL.
And our solar system:
C of Jupiter = 279,118 miles (449,197 km).
Highest mountain is Olympus Mons on Mars. It is 16 miles high (24 km) and is the size of Arizona.

Nice. I think I've about got how to do it. None of the maps I'm working on currently have oceans in them, but using a different color gradient and putting the same noise in it could create some awesome small bodies of water. What was the color code you used for the earth tones? Those are really realistic, especially the brown.
Those look great . Oceans always give me trouble when I go for a "realistic" satellite view.

mid latitude land colors
brown = 133 115 65
green = 49 86 0
arctic land colors
brown = 134 112 54
brown green = 110 105 74
I'm actually using plasma 2 with 2 colors to get mostly everything. The coastal shape is difference clouds and the sunshine is desaturated hurl noise. The rest is plasma 2.
Actually I am not concentrating too much on the land at the moment. Later I want to give as much emphasis on different land pattern (arctic, desert, plains, ect) as I am giving the oceans now.
