This is the very large scale version of the map. eventually i will be filling the entire thing, we'll see how long it takes.
Here is my first attempt, it is a small corner of a much larger map.
I have already used a great amount of knowledge from the tutorials and would be glad to receive any comments and or criticisms.
I use both photoshop and GIMP (only just a little of gimp for the nice extras)

Well thank you This is a small scale of the continent then.
looks pretty good so far. I would use a different style brush to mark the roads however. they look a bit jumbled for lack of a better word. In my humble opinion a nice dashed line or dotted line would work better. keep it up! its looking great so far and for your first attempt.
Yeah i just figured out how to make the roads look better. though i do look that, when full sized, it looks like footsteps. It will probably change as the map grows, we shall see.
Thanks for the comment and the compliment.
I think it looks great so far, though I agree about the roads. The rivers especially look great; very realistic curves and bends, and I love the subtle coloring.
Have some rep and welcome to the Guild!
Thanks the rivers i kind of used some inspiration from Roba and did my own thing. I use Photoshop primarily, and i used the fade tool with the brush. Set it to 1000ish and hand drew the river using a 4px round. When i was done i did the same with the small tributaries, everytime reducing the amount of fade by the same percentage as i reduced the brush size. Keeps it even and works great. Then i just made a copy of the layer and used Gaussian Blur, setting it pretty high, then adding noise, then less blur again. I really like the effect.
Labels added, as well as some additional work on the trees/rivers. Still havent fixed the roads, but i'm trying to figure out a good way to do that with photoshop. Anyone know how to do a stroke path, like is so easily done with GIMP, in photoshop? Just something where i can use the bezier pen to lay out a path then set the stroke to a dashed line. Any help would stop me from hours of ripping the hair from my head until i find it.

Sorry, can't help you with that. I'm pretty sure there is a way to do it; I just don't know what it is.
