Great find! I recently got a copy of the atlas maior published by taschen though sadly haven't had much chance to look at it.
While working on my first major map ( http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...nkissed-World) ), I discovered that my university's library has a rather large volume with selections from 17th century Dutch cartographer Joan Blaeu. As I had already decided I wanted to populate my oceans with ship engravings, I knew I had to have these, and made a number of high resolution scans, which I then converted into gray scale brushes for GIMP. I have uploaded them as high-quality .jpgs so that they can easily be converted back into brushes either for GIMP or for Photoshop. As far as copyright goes, I double checked the front of the book, but didn't see anything, and since the atlas was published in 1662, it is certainly part of the public domain. You can pick and choose between the ships, or download a zip of the whole bundle (Many thanks to maackey for collecting the files in zip)
Enjoy,
-Seleucus

I also still want a copy of the Atlas Mior. Are teh scans inside the book good enough for seeing the linework properly?
@ Schwarzkreuz The copy that my university's library has contained maps with a number of different resolutions. In the interest of getting as many maps in as possible, most were quite small - though a large amount of detail could still be seen, but others were much closer to 1:1. In the interest of getting as much detail as possible, I chose my ships purely from the larger maps. I still have many of the scans I made - would you like me to upload one or two so you can see for yourself?
EDIT: Just saw your post on my finished map thread, which renders my previous question unneeded. I'll zip a couple of the scans and attach them here either soon.
EDIT: Each scan far exceeds the max upload limit (each is around 20,000 KB) but I cropped a portion of one for you.

Thanks for your swift answer. Do you use dropbox or something like that?
No, but if you want to give me an email address, I can send you images that way.
Thanks for sharing. Great find.

Thanks for sharing! This stuff is awesome
Nice ship engravings. I turned some of them into png's with transparent backgrounds. See if these work for you.
