I followed Tears tuto and still cannot do this ocean effect around the coast
Hello guys. I started to try my hand at this whole map making thing very recently - this week, in fact. These are my two first attempts. Both were made in Photoshop, with the help of some tutorials I found here:

I'll be posting my stuff here and in my new blog: Fantasy Cartographer
Bye!
I followed Tears tuto and still cannot do this ocean effect around the coast
Pretty nice job so far. It's very soft and foggy. Looking forward to seeing more.
Cheers,

Are you using Photoshop in a different language than the tutorial? If so, you might want to check if you are getting everything right. If not, just following the tutorial exactly as it is written produces very good results. Don't give up! =)
Is soft and foggy good or bad? =)
Thanks for commenting!
See ya!
yeah, i am still trying but is hard...
i like thos randon forms specialy the first map
Wow those maps are wonderful! They have such a good feel to them, and these are your first attempts!? Well done!
These look wonderful! good job.
This cavern is below all, and is the foe of all. It is hatred, without exception. This cavern knows no philosophers; its dagger has never cut a pen. Its blackness has no connection with the sublime blackness of the inkstand. Never have the fingers of night which contract beneath this stifling ceiling, turned the leaves of a book nor unfolded a newspaper.
They have a very painterly feel, I realy like that, how did you archiev this pastel effect?
For the second map, I just played around with filters and layer modes in photoshop. Not sure what I did exactly, sorry!
I also like the painterly feel . I've noticed that on the right-most land mass of the second map, Prydain, you have an elevated coast and a depressed interior. Do you think there would be a decent chance for a lake to form in that area?
