Default [WIP ] Grass and Forest Maps

Been putting a lot of work into grass and forest maps. We started by creating a nice ground texture, then placed tree trunks, then made a transparent "canopy" layer, so people could see both the ground and the tree's hitbox.

Here's our first attempt : forest WIP 1.png

I didn't really like it, so we kept brightening it to make it look more like a fantasy forest, and fudged everything. Here's our second attempt : forest WIP 2.jpg

We had a lot of feedback saying the ground needs to be more pronounced, the trees need to be less distracting, etc. So we completely rebuilt the ground texture and double-sided the transparent mask on the tree leaves.

Here's our third attempt: Forest WIP3.jpg

Pretty happy with this last attempt, although the printer printed it too dark and in the phone pic it looks like you cannot see the ground well, in person you can.

    Here's more images :

And here's some shots of them printed and how they match up. Note that the "transition line" on 1 edge of the forest will be doubled so these transist even better, and you can put those edges on opposite ends to tile giant forests without ever seeing them.

    Hi Johs,

I can not pm you yet. I need to make 5 posts before I can pm. So I sent you a message on facebook about what I am looking for. Also I put up a post on this forum about what I am looking for. Here is a link to my post on this forum.

I am looking for some one to put together a grass terrain game board image for me. My grass terrain setup is like the one seen in your post here. That is why I thought I ask you for help.

I hope to hear back from you soon.

    Thanks,
    Tony

Very nice. The flexibility for larger maps is very nice.
