    Wip Azeria and Aricia

This is the first major project I've embarked on since I lost the file for "Karivosa" (it was really disheartening). Like the previous project, I'll continue to post updates and samples. You're all invited to comment and share your thoughts.

    First try:

    Refined first try:

    Effects and textures:

    Started drawing mountains:

Update time! I've finished the mountains in the south of Aricia. In my imagination there was some kind of a rift there which formed the seas that seem to divide the continents and left only a small land bridge. Next, it'll be doing the equivalent mountains on Azeria.

Please, tell me what you think.

The shape of your continent is really cool, as well as your textures, simple but efficient. Compared to your continent shape the mountains seems a bit unsophisticated. 3/4 view isn't my field but with a so good start i'll consider trying more complex mountains.

I agree with Francissimo, I love your continent shape and your texture. I also really like your mountains.

Wonderful texture, and I love the coastlines and general layout of the map, but I'm not so sure about the mountains to the south there. They seem very stratified in places and I feel like it's just not that fluid--Might just be me though. Are you planning on adding some sort of foothills, or connecting some of the lines?

I agree with you, they've been really troublesome.

Yep that's better, according to me you need to have strong variations in the shape and sizze of your mountains for a natural feeling. Your mountains are good but i was thinking about mountains like the ones drawn by max here http://www.cartographersguild.com/cu...tml#post246746
As i say i'm a noob in 3/4 view and i don't know if you use mountain brush or if you manually draw each mountain but if you use existing brush maybe you can try some more complex ones

Actually, if Ned is going with an iconic style map, the mountains could work well as they are right now imho.
