I remember you - you opened last time by saying that everyone would hate you. I really don't know why you run yourself down so much.
Just make maps, post them and join in the fun.
If I had to guess, I'd say nobody remembers me. That's why I'm posting as if I were new here.
Hello! I am a DnD player looking to make maps for RPtools' Maptool. I use GIMP because it's free, but I would be open to using other free programs if you have any suggestions for better ones. I'm not the worlds best artist, so if you have any tips, feel free to share. Lastly, if anyone DOES remember me, you can ignore this post.

The best tips I can give you are to:
- run through some tutorials on GIMP here
- Get all of RobA's scripts
- Find as many seamless textures as you can legally obtain
- Get the GURM script by Sagenlicht for management of all your new textures
- Get the free Genetica viewer from Spiral Graphics and generate tons of you own textures.
- Make sure you learn how to use RobA's Dungeon maker script and then combine that with the textures via layer masks (see my tutorial on layer masks)
- oh yea.... post lot's of maps here at all levels of completeness!!!!!
- help others, sometimes you think of some really cool things while trying to figure out someone else's problem.

And if you'd like to add vector capabilities to your mapping arsenal, take a look at Inkscape. Inkscape : Illustrator :: Gimp : Photoshop. (And you thought those analogy questions on the SAT were worthless.)
