I think they're saying that the rules-stuff they supply is for 4e, but the functionalities can be used for what-ever. But probably not worth guessing till its final.
EDIT: looks like they support all versions all the way back to 1

Well.... the site you linked to seems to show that they support all previous D&D versions as well as possibly other game systems. Look at the second screenshot....

yep.. and integrated voip is cool too.. with voice changers... hehe... sounds like fun. Lets just hope the pricing will be fun too. It would be just like wizards to stick a too heavy price on it, and forget that it has to compete with fantasy grounds and maptools. But then again, not all know those exists.
I do hope they'll add functions for importing characters and monsters before launching, cause thats really something that would help me choose
I'd of course prefer it just to be a part of D&D Insider since I allready pay for that
